Ripken Design Hired As Project Consultant For Proposed Minor League Baseball Facility In Hagerstown, MD

Baltimore, Md. – Ripken Design today announced that it has released the results of a recent feasibility study for a proposed minor league baseball facility in Hagerstown, Maryland. Ripken Design presented its findings at a local Hagerstown City Council meeting on April 17, 2012 to City of Hagerstown and Washington County representatives, as well as State of Maryland officials. Officials will now examine the final study to make a final decision on next steps for the financing and possible construction of the new multi-use outdoor sports and events center.

In February 2012, Ripken Design was hired by the City of Hagerstown and Washington County to prepare a feasibility study that would examine the financial, redevelopment and economic impacts of a new multi-use outdoor sports and events center in Downtown Hagerstown. The final report indicated that a new facility would generate roughly $44.5 million in total direct, indirect and induced economic impact during the first ten years and would create $12.4 million in earnings through the creation of 312 new jobs. The multi-use center is also projected to generate sufficient public revenues through direct payments, local taxes, surrounding property improvements and new development to allow the project to be financed without an increase in local tax rates.

“We are excited about the opportunity to work with the City of Hagerstown on the proposed multi-use stadium project,” said Jim Arnold, Ripken Design Director of Projects. “We were proud to work under an accelerated timeline on behalf of the City of Hagerstown on this important regional project to deliver comprehensive findings allowing local and state officials to make an informed decision in the best interest of the city to help revitalize business in Hagerstown.”
